Ronald Van de Sompel is currently active as a Research & Symposium Associate at OSLO PILOT, a two-year research-based project that lays the ground for a future art biennial in Oslo (NO). Prior to this appointment, he was employed as an Associate Curator and Researcher for M–Museum in Leuven, examining the destruction of art and culture in times of conflict. He was also an Advisor with the art commissioning team of the Flemish Government. For many years Ronald Van de Sompel worked as a Curator at M HKA in Antwerp. He was also engaged as Acting Senior Curator at BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead (GB). In 2010 he curated the exhibition 'Hareng Saur: Ensor and Contemporary Art' at the Museum of Fine Arts and S.M.A.K. in Ghent. In addition he conducted research projects on contemporary visual arts in Asia for Europalia Nippon Kinen Foundation in Tokyo (JP) and the Jan van Eyck Academy in Maastricht (NL). He has been active for many years as an author and art critic, writing for the newspaper De Morgen, art magazines and numerous publications.
