Jeroen Laureyns (b. 1976, Ghent) is a lecturer, senior lecturer, researcher, and art critic at LUCA School of Arts. He studied art history at Ghent University in the 1990s, but his intellectual alma mater is the University of Heidelberg. Central to all his activities is the spoken word: both in his inspiring—yet often highly critical—contributions as an art critic on the program *Pompidou* on Klara (VRT), and in his Socratic teaching and research methods at Sint-Lucas in Ghent (LUCA School of Arts), as well as in his reflective, outspoken style of writing in various newspapers such as *De Standaard*, De Tijd, or magazines such as rekto:verso & HART/GLEAN. In 2013, he earned his Ph.D. from the VUB with the book and exhibition “Away from Flanders—Contemporary Landscapes in the Visual Arts 1968–2013.” Prompted by the harsh criticism from two artists, Ellen De Meuter and Tina Gillen, regarding the complete absence of a female perspective in his book, he resolved to seek out a more inclusive collective artistic memory in his teaching and research, both locally (Belgian) and internationally (European). The first four publications with MER/Borgerhoff & Lamberigts form the starting point for the creation of an alternative canon, titled “The Flemish Blacks & The Belgian Shadow Painters—Proposals for a More Inclusive, Collective, Belgian Art Memory.” In his art-historical essay for Jean De Groote’s book *Physis*, he sheds light on another dark chapter in our collective past: sexual abuse within the Church and the accompanying culture of omerta and vendetta.
